Einsteinium Foundation 2020 Annual letter

To the Einsteinium Community,

This year has been defined by the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This global pandemic has resulted in an immeasurable amount of human death and suffering. The totality of the unprecedented change caused as an effect of this disease and forthcoming societal changes are yet to be seen. Therefore, the consequences will unroll and be felt for generations. We will live through a time where the echoes of the pandemic represent in their whole the fragile state of the human condition on this planet. As of the writing of this letter over 70 Million cases of coronavirus have resulted in over 1.6 Million deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker. However, hope is on the horizon with advanced research and development of several vaccines targeting key structural areas of the SARS-CoV-2 genome. The planning and logistical deployment of these highly efficacious therapies will continue to be distributed well into 2021. Humanity is served by the unrepentant energy and activity of scientific research and those that endeavor to overcome these maladies. Perseverance, an innate quality of mankind will shine through as we anticipate a time when the pandemic will be well behind us and we can resume carrying on our normal lives. The Einsteinium Foundation (EMC2), owing to our own values and mission statement have led direct contributions towards the COVID-19 medical response. Members of the Einsteinium community and leadership of the foundation should be proud of their fast acting resolve and dedication. During the early phases of the pandemic we were able to quickly answer the capital needs of two organizations. For more information about these actions, see our blog posts “ https://www.emc2.foundation/emc2-blog/2020/5/18/the-einsteinium-foundation-emc2-announces-covid-19-response-funding-to-elemeno-health” and “https://www.emc2.foundation/emc2-blog/2020/5/5/the-einsteinium-foundation-emc2-announces-covid-19-response-funding-to-serim-general-hospital”. We are highly encouraged by the work that these organizations are doing. And continue to look for opportunities to contribute to science which benefits humanity and helps to alleviate pain and suffering.

We live through a dynamic time in the history of blockchain technology. By all rational measures of success we have survived yet another cryptocurrency “winter”. The markets today resemble a fast moving, complex situation as Bitcoin has just passed it's all time high. We are witness to unprecedented change in the capital markets as retail and institutional support for cryptocurrency has picked up. And we anticipate continued momentum and adoption to move from those classified as first movers into the sphere and psyche of the mainstream. By far, our largest push this year has been to continue to deliver on the release of our new coin MIL. The release of MIL will be a gamechanger for us. It will position Einsteinium and the Einsteinium Foundation in a strong financial position and will be a technological leap forward. Einsteinium is an old coin in the cryptocurrency space with our genesis block being mined on March 1st 2014. Since it came into existence, the Einsteinium Foundation has changed personnel, as the original team of developers abandoned the project in mid 2014. For several months, the project lay dormant until members of the current team took over in summer of 2016. During this time, the foundation has managed to overcome many logistical, technical and macroeconomic challenges, continuing to learn how to efficiently operate in the blockchain space and grow our community all along the way. After long discourse, we have clearly identified several areas we feel are necessary to improve upon in order to be able to advance the pursuit of our mission. By using both coins (EMC2 and MIL) as a tool to search, recognize, reward and even fund the best scientific research, our ability to expand our reach and the probability of accomplishing our fundamental mission will be significantly stronger. The Einsteinium Foundation is embarking on a truly ambitious path likely to change how cryptocurrency is viewed and used in the real world through the ongoing philanthropic support and dedication to scientific research. By allowing funds to circumvent political roadblocks, we can accelerate our ability to create rapid and necessary change. Such a mission requires a complex system of apps, platforms, services and coins, but all in a simple to use software hub. For more information about the underlying philosophy for MIL please see our Blue Paper “https://download.emc2.foundation/docs/MIL-Coin-Blue-Paper.pdf”.

Einsteinium owes a debt of gratitude to the ongoing support and loyalty of our global community. We are very proud of the active and vocal global community Einsteinium has. Our hope is that our community keeps up the great work it has done to support our mission statement and core values for the foreseeable future. We are all in this together and want to do everything we can to help get all of us through these challenging times. It is only through the continued energy and efforts to drive change that we can accomplish our long term mission of being a cryptocurrency that supports scientific research in innovative ways. We appreciate the ideas and feedback offered to us by our community. We are looking forward to the continued development of our crowdfunding platform (“https://emc2me.io”) as a way to integrate this critical feedback and interest in cutting edge scientific research. It will also provide a unique opportunity for researchers and those who financially support their work to have a direct channel to communicate results. As this aids us in accomplishing our milestones and growing the Einsteinium Foundation to what it has become today. We know that our community has worked very hard and we truly admire your dedication. We are inspired by your creative thinking, resourcefulness and willingness to always help others. And we want to do the same for you. Therefore, we also look forward to continued support for our social platform Weeee Cash (“http://weeee.io/”), as a way to promote the social and daily use of Einsteinium in a frictionless way. Our community has been a significant part of our team and couldn't imagine a situation without you. Thank you for staying with us over the years and the bright days to come. We are excited to look into the future and support believers, evangelists and cryptocurrency heroes like you. A loyal and dedicated community like you are the foundation to any successful organization. Throughout these unparalleled and difficult times, it is important that we support and reach out to one another. The Einsteinium Foundation maintains a number of modern digital communication channels which I encourage anyone to reach out to us with.

It is still early days and as blockchain technology reaches beyond the financial sector, we expect new applications and methods to be developed for the scientific community. We continue to see innovation at the intersection of scientific research and cryptocurrency (blockchain) and the development of widely adopted standardization and functional frameworks. Which for the purpose of this letter I will make no attempt to review as a number of useful reviews have been published in the recent literature. The immutability of the blockchain will be a core feature to add towards the transparency and philosophy of open science. Additionally,, we believe a necessary component for the implementation and utility of blockchain solutions surround the reproducibility crisis in the scientific community. However, the blockchain will continue to see its technology applied as a way to share information safely, an ever important feature in this digital world. And as work in this arena goes from gray area literature to more peer-reviewed publications, the digital ledger will be used to secure scientific data and hopefully can play a central role in dismantling the reproducibility crisis in the scientific literature.

The Einsteinium Foundation continues to support scientific research through the use of our annual award program. Scientific research is a long-term investment in our future, and the future of our planet. The Einsteinium Foundation is proud to continue to announce an open call for applications for the Einsteinium Award. We are interested in supporting a broad range of scientific work. Therefore, applicants from a University or Graduate studies program are always encouraged to apply. We constantly seek top-level research from Students, Postdocs, and Professors from all over the world. For those interested in more information for our annual reward program please email us at “projects@emc2.foundation”.

Within the Einsteinium project, we are truly standing on the shoulders of giants. We are thankful for the foresight the original developers had to push this idea forward. Additionally we are thankful to past leadership for their stewardship of this project and their tireless effort. As we look towards 2021, we anticipate an exciting time where blockchain and cryptocurrency continue to mature and we are well positioned with the release of MIL. We are excited at the opportunities this provides to continue to support a number of different avenues which contribute to fundamental scientific progress. The Einsteinium Foundation will look for citizen science projects which engage its members and empower people to careers within science. Owing to this we also hope to support local STEM education and this guarantees the next generation of scientific researchers and thought leaders. We also anticipate expanding on our team, the Einsteinium Foundation is looking for a number of roles to contribute towards the success and adoption of Einsteinium. In particular we are looking for blockchain developers to work on our new cryptocurrency core (wallet) which utilizes Ethash mining algorithm. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on development experience with Bitcoin or any other Bitcoin-like cryptocurrency core project. For more information about this, reach out to us via the contact form on our main page, or email “Alexander.Lucaci@Emc2.Foundation

As we near the end of the unprecedented year, I extend my deepest gratitude to our community, especially those on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis. Your exemplary service and dedication to Einsteinium allows us to continue growing and building towards our mission. Together, we have made it through this trying year and I am confident that we will tackle whatever is ahead with continued optimism and grace.

The Einsteinium Foundation, from our family to yours, wishes you a happy, prosperous and healthy New Year.

Sincerely,

Leadership of The Einsteinium Foundation

MIL Developers Update - August 2020

There is something I would like to share with the EMC2 Community.

A previous bug we had at ‘Block 30,000’, which was a major roadblock for MIL development and release is being resolved! To provide a little more clarifying background on the issue: the EMC2 foundation software developers have worked on bringing ETHash algorithm into EMC2 codebase, which with some additional technical improvements would result in our new coin release, known as ‘MIL’.

A full description of the project, technical specifications, genesis, and rationale behind it can be found in the MIL Blue Paper.

After about a year of work, one of our core developers suddenly left the foundation leaving behind what was thought to be a functional MIL wallet, pool, as well as additional software modules necessary for initial distribution and completion of the airdrop.

After this departure the EMC2 foundation started intensive software quality control and testing and discovered that the mining process would get stuck at the block 30,000. Unfortunately, consultations with the original developer was not enough to resolve the issue.

An analogous situation arises, for example, if you want to customize your car with more power. Simply moving the engine from one car to another would not be enough to complete this process. You have to consider that there is a transmission and other peripherals involved in the upgrade.

The same situation presents itself with cryptocurrencies and their respective hashing algorithms. Transitioning to a new algorithm takes enormous effort to work. And it is not simply enough for the blockchain network to function. There are additional parts involved that concurrently need to be updated.

During our testing and debugging phase, pressure for expected release has increased, the developer lost steam and at some point made himself not available even on consulting bases.

Some of the very OG members and long term contributors to EMC2 foundation picked up this responsibility and carried on with looking into resolving the ‘Block 30,000’ bug.

After weeks, and I can say months, of looking into both code bases, and some brainstorming sessions, it seems like ideas of how to move forward have sparked.Just yesterday, we were successfully able to pass the 30k barrier on regnet! Which in other terms means that we are looking into testing fixes on our test network and ultimately have moved closer to releasing MIL main network.

We are committed to the MIL project, how about you?

Where there is smoke, there’s fire.

Cheers!
